We have Susan Miller when we want to check-in with something outside of ourselves–like the alignment of the sun and the moon. When want to go inward–I’m here to check-in with how you’re feeling, to see if you’re in alignment with how you want to feel.
Hey, it’s been quite the year. And while I’ve waited till the last week of 2021 to launch a newsletter to announce that I became a coach (though you may have been clued in by all of the IG posts about mindfulness and gratitude - and if not, follow me, :) ) it’s definitely been one of my highlights.
So why did I become a coach? Over 14+ years I built a marketing career and the running narrative in my head was: “If I just reach this position, land this client, build this business, then I'll feel fulfilled and happy.” And guess what, year after year passed and I wasn't. Instead, I was stressed, drained and depleted. I continued on the same cycle, because fear of the unknown was scarier than the familiar, and I didn't begin to gain clarity until I turned my focus inward and prioritized how I was feeling over how I was performing.
This shift in mindset allowed me to identify the feelings I wanted to experience and gave me the courage to take action to align with them. This practice helped me define and achieve my true desires–to feel energized and excited–and live in alignment with my version of success–helping people live with confidence and ease… through coaching.
The new year is coming, but we don’t need a new you. Forget resolutions, let's focus on revelations. What do you want to let go of? How do you want to feel instead?
As Desire icon Danielle La Porte, author of The Desire Map says, “You’re not chasing the goal itself, you are actually chasing the feeling that you hope achieving that goal will give you.”
Here’s how:
Take inventory of your year by answering these questions:
What were the best experiences of your year? → How did they make you feel
What are you most grateful for? → How do these things make you feel?
What didn’t serve you this year? List all the things that you want to leave behind. → How would you like to feel instead?
Look at what feelings came up for you and decide which ones you want to bring into 2022.
Once you’ve Identified your top feelings for 2022 and write them down, put them somewhere you can see them–sticky notes on your computer, your phone screen, a giant collage, or whatever feels good to you.
Let your feelings fuel you to take action and align with them. What small steps can you commit to achieve them in 2022?
